Mastectomy Survival Kit
When I was packing for the hospital and getting ready for my bilateral mastectomy, I really didn't know exactly what to pack. I got some suggestions here and there from people, but there were some things that weren't recommended that I definitely wish I had. Luckily, you won't have the same issue, because below is the official Bad Lemons Mastectomy Survival Kit!
The Hugger by Prairie Wear is amazing and you can wear this puppy 24/7 after your surgery. It provides compression, which physicians love because it helps prevent seromas and it's also antibacterial!
Dry shampoo is life and it's always my lifesaver. When you have your surgery it will be a few days until you can wash your hair, so I suggest bringing dry shampoo and a brush...trust me, watch my documentary if you haven't yet, you'll need both of those things. My favorite dry shampoo is from Monat and one bottle lasts a month for me and I use A LOT.
You won't be able to lift your arms after you surgery, because your range of motion will be terrible and also you'll be in lots of pain if you move your arms too much. Soooo button downs and zip ups are key! Of course, I found PJ's with lemons on them, they are adorable and super inexpensive.
You're going to be walking around your hospital room and in the hallway and chances are you aren't going to want to wear shoes nor socks. Here are some super cute slippers with rubber soles, to help prevent slipping on the yucky hospital floor.
I wish I had known about this when I had my surgery, because the drains are a pain in the ASS. This robe will hold your drains so they don't fall, because it's very important you keep them from dangling. Also, you're going to want to be in comfy clothes at all times and I LIVED in my robe for the first week and a half of recovery.
This pillow is amazing for not just pregnancies, but also for recovering from your mastectomy. You're not going to be spooning it in the beginning though, you will be laying down the middle facing up, use the sides as arm rests, you're going to want lots of support under your arms.
